What Is A Farm Animal Sanctuary?

A farm animal rescue, or sanctuary, is a home provided for farmed animals to create a safe haven away from our food industry, beauty industry, animal testing, and other abuses humans have placed them in. Vegan sanctuaries primary goals is to end speciesism.

What does vegan mean?

"Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."

What does speciesism mean?

"Speciesism, in applied ethics and the philosophy of animal rights, the practice of treating members of one species as morally more important than members of other species; also, the belief that this practice is justified.

The term speciesism was introduced by the English philosopher Richard Ryder in the 1970s and subsequently popularized by the Australian philosopher Peter Singer. Ryder, Singer, and other opponents of speciesism have claimed that it is exactly analogous to racismsexism, and other forms of irrational discrimination and prejudice."
